David Cameron is trending strongly on Twitter today, in what looks to me as an indication to Labour that DC can dominate social media without any effort whatsoever, and make it look effortless.
And he can; most people tweeting about Cameron’s ‘gaffes’, which I believe were not planned, but well calculated, are saying relatively positive things about DC. This isn’t an embarrassment like grinning like a loon on Facebook, nor was it preplanned and deliberate. In fact, it will come across to most people like a politician on his holidays, letting his har down, behaving like a human.
It will compare beautifully with Brown’s being kept from the cameras, or whatever Nick Clegg is doing to try to grab some headlines.
Whoever’s advising Cameron on social media has moved beautifully with the times, and it’s beginning to shine through in an appreciation within the community he needs to target of his human, interesting and funny side. It’s also not something a PR adviser can do effectively; this is Cameron at his most comfortable, and the contrast with Brown couldn’t be more stark.
