Anybody who takes a huff attack and vows to vote UKIP or BNP because we now won’t have a referendum on the already ratified Lisbon Treaty obviously doesn’t care about the thousands of good reasons to vote Conservative and force these morons out.

Note: regular readers of Slugger O’Toole will call this entire article whataboutery. It is. I’m predicting a possible future here, so don’t hate me if you don’t like the scenario I depict. Please don’t cry, and certainly don’t have nightmares. I had three strange conversations about Lisbon today, from three sides of the debate around [...]

Vote No. They threatened you They treated you like a fool They pretended it was a new document They didn’t listen to you the first time Your sovereignty, and the sovereignty of other nations is eroded by the treaty Whilst I’ve tried to think of all the things that make me proud to be a [...]

Gardaí say that it’s a miracle nobody was seriously hurt in the Son of God’s apparently politically motivated attack on a public information meeting last night. The vicious attack, in which tables were turned over and punches thrown, broke out after a member of the audience made jokes about the religious motivation of the Christian [...]

come and see Ireland, come and see the way an EU referendum is handled, and consider whether the people here really are free to vote in a fair referendum. But don’t say you weren’t warned what to expect.

Living as I currently do in Dublin, I see the Lisbon Treaty referendum happening all around me. I am a British citizen, so I have no vote. Quite right, citizens of other nations shouldn’t have a say on the constitution of Ireland. But, listening to the Marian Finucane show today, I know now that I [...]

So in my previous post, I explained that some organisations were putting up really godawful posters for the Lisbon Treaty. And I think most people agree that very many of them are pretty substantially awe-inspiring. I was awfully inspired on a few of them to pull them down and correct their grammar, possibly add a [...]

This post will look at some of the Lisbon Treaty referendum posters from two groups, Cóir and ‘We Belong’ critically assessing some of them and then making fun of the rest.

The most amusing thing about the nascent referendum campaign in Ireland is the approach of the two sides. It’s not as oppositional at least in spirit as you might think. The Pro Lisbon lobby are smug. They got a second referendum, meaning they have lots of fun canvassing and self-righteous posing to do before the [...]
